Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka A laid-back spoof of knights in shining armor, El Caballero del Dragon is set in a medieval European village, but the knight's armor is actually a spacesuit. Boetius (Klaus Kinski) is a necromancer and alchemist fawning after the near-senile Count of Rue (Jose Vivo). The film stars Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Ralph Ineson, and Sean Harris and is based on the poem of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The Green Knight is an upcoming 2020 American medieval fantasy film written and directed by David Lowery. The film stars Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Ralph Ineson, and Sean Harris and is based on the poem of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

The Green Knight is scheduled to be released on May 29, 2020, by A24.

Synopsis[edit]

A fantasy adventure based on the Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur's headstrong nephew, who embarks on a quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic green-skinned stranger.

Production[edit]

It was announced in November 2018 that David Lowery would direct a retelling of the 14th century tale Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, with A24, Ley Line Entertainment, and Bron Studios set to finance.[2]

In March 2019, Dev Patel entered negotiations to star in the film.[3] That same month, Barry Keoghan and Ralph Ineson joined the cast of the film.[4] In April 2019, it was announced Alicia Vikander and Erin Kellyman had been cast in the film.[5][6]

Principal photography began in March 2019, with Ardmore Studios as a filming location. Weta Digital worked on the visual effects.[7][8][9]

Release[edit]

It was scheduled to have its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 16, 2020.[10] However, the festival was cancelled due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.[11] It is scheduled to be released on May 29, 2020.[12]
